Sep 17, 2015- Hundreds of earthquake-hit people taking shelter in temporary camps have been suffering from various skin diseases in Ramechhap district.
The quake-affected people are infected with scabies, fungal infections and other skin diseases in district headquarters Manthali.
Dr Nabin Sinjali Magar of Manthali Primary Health Center said skin infection has been seen in people who are living in the camps.
“This season is also responsible to spread the skin diseases,” Magar said, adding that people living in vicinity also face the similar health problems.
There are several patients suffering from skin diseases in the camp. Health workers said some patients are found to be living with scabies and fungal infections.
Likewise, several patients suffering from skin diseases have received treatment in Tamakoshi Cooperative Hospital.
Dr Suman Karmacharya of the hospital said fungal infections are found inside shaded areas of the tent and transmitted to people living in the vicinity.
As the disease is communicable, it easily gets transmitted, he said.
The quake-displaced are also infected with diseases caused by mosquitoes and other insects in the tents. Meanwhile, many children in Dhading district developed skin infections.
Most of the children who came there from northern villages are facing difficulties adapting to warmer weather.
Likewise, some children are also suffering from diarrhoea, fever, cough and headache. There is no proper drainage system in the camps as they were built rather hastily to provide shelter to a large number of displaced families.
