Sep 17, 2015- Nepal has been ranked in 106th place among 157 countries on the annual Economic Freedom index of Samriddhi--the Prosperity Foundation. The country was in the 126th position among 152 countries last year.
Samriddhi, in conjunction with Canada’s Fraser Institute, has upgraded Nepal in the Economic Freedom of the World: 2015 Annual Report.
The foundation has been releasing the annual report for the last eight years.
Nepal received a score of 6.56 points this year. According to the foundation, the threshold is between 1-10 where a higher value indicates a higher level of economic freedom. It had secured 6.16 points last year.
The foundation said in a statement that it has considered five key areas to measure the economic freedom. Out of them, Nepal’s position has improved in almost all the indicators, including size of government, legal system and property rights, access to sound money, freedom to trader internationally and regulation of credit, labour and business during the review period.
