Jaishankar is arriving two day prior to the promulgation of Nepal's new constitution. India has been urging flexibility to reach the widest possible agreement on Nepal's constitution. He is expected to meet Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, President Ram Baran Yadav, among other top political leaders, to convey Prime Minister Modi's message.
Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae met President Ram Baran Yadav this morning before flying to Delhi. He met PM Modi and Jaishankar in Delhi later in the day. Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present during the meeting.
It is learnt that the meeting decided to send a special envoy to Nepal. Ambassador Rae will accompany Jaishankar tomorrow.
President’s office sources said that Ambassador Rae had discussed Nepal’s latest political situation, preparation for promulgation of constitution and protest from Madhesi leaders during his meeting with President Yadav this morning.
