KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Sirish Gurung finished 100th in the men’s 100 metres freestyle heats in the 16th FINA World Championship at Kazan, Russia, on Wednesday.
Though disqualified for semi-final, he broke his own national record by swimming the distance in 58.22 seconds.
In September last year, Gurung had set the new national record by swimming the distance in 58.55 seconds during the Fourth NSA Cup Swimming Championships at Satdobato.
In the championship, Nepal’s Gaurika Singh and Sophia Shah have set new national records in the women’s 100 metres backstroke and 200 metres freestyle respectively.
