Bhaktapur Durbar Square is the central of attraction foe visitors. It contains innumerable temples and other architectural showpieces like the Lion Gate, the statue of King Bhupatindra Malla. The picture Gallery, the Golden Gate, the palace of 55 windows, the balsala temple, the bell of barking dogs and the replica of Pashupatinath Temple.

The Lion Gate was build during the reign of king Bhupatendra Malla, It is adorned with the lovely stone figures of hanuman, Bhairav and Narasingh Narayan. The statue of King Bhupatindra Malla in the act of worship is placed on a column facing the pal;ace. This statue is considered to be the most magnificent in Nepal. The picture Gallery contains ancient paintings belonging to Hindu and
Buddhist schools of Tantrism of various periods and descriptions. The Golden Gate is the main entrance to the palace of 55 windows. It was built by King Ranjit Malla and is one of the most beautiful and richly carved specimen of its kind in the entire world. The door is surmounted by figures of kind in the entire world. The door is surmounted by figures of Goddess Kali and Gaurada and is attended by two sky nymphs. The gate is astablished with monasters of marvellous intricacy.

The palace of 55 windows was build in the seventeenth century by king Bhupatindra Malla. The palace is famous for its balcony or 55 windows which is a masterpiece of wood carving.

The stone of Batsala Devi, located in the Durbar square is also a beautiful example of Shikhara style of architecture in Nepal. On the terrace of the temple, there is a colossal bronze bell which was placed by king Ranajit Malla in 1737 AD. It is also known as the "Bell of Barking Dogs".When it peals, the local dogs start barking. The bell is rung every morning while worshipping Goddess Teleju. It was aue to sound curfew during the region of King Ranajit Malla.
