National bird Danphe at risk of extinction in Achham

BHIMDUTTANAGAR: Danphe or Lophoporous, the national bird is at risk of becoming extinct from the Ramroshan area of Achham district.

The jungle of Ramroshan was the popular habitat of the national bird. However, there are rarely seen these days, says local Kali Bahadur Budha.

As a result, the district is at risk of losing the only place where the national bird was found. Locals have blamed it on the lack of preservation.

Ramroshan is a popular tourist destination and also an identity of the district. But that is now at risk of vanishing as authorities concerned have not worked to preserve the birds and wildlife in the area, says local social worker Govinda Saud. NTB
