Root Canal Treatment |
Root canal treatment is one type of endodontic treatment in which inside of the tooth is treated. This root canal treatment becomes necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or root canal infection may cause due to range of causes, such as, deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.
SIGNS OF PULP INFECTION:
- Continuous pain in the pulp.
- extended sensitivity to heat or cold
- tenderness to touch and chewing
- discoloration of the tooth
- swelling, drainage and tenderness in the lymph nodes as well as nearby bone and gingival tissues
The root canal treatment will remove the inflamed or infected pulp. This treatment carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the canal, a channel inside the root. After that it fills and seals the space. Later on the dentist will place a crown or other restoration on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function. After the restoration procedure, the tooth continues to do its task like any other tooth. For the first few days after treatment, your tooth may feel sensitive, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure. This ache can be calmed with prescription medications. The root canal cost differs depending on how intricate the problem is and which tooth is affected. Molars are more difficult to treat, so the molar treatment cost is usually more.
TREATMENT AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
- Do not chew or bite on the treated tooth until you have had it restored by your dentist. The unrestored tooth is susceptible to fracture.
- Practice good oral hygiene, including brushing, flossing, and regular checkups and cleanings.
